Dark days and darker nights

I am but one soldier in an endless fight

Some say that I am lazy

Some say, "You must be crazy"

You joke that I eat donuts all day

and that I must be all work and no play

In front of your children you refer to me as swine

then expect me to handle them when they get out of line

In the eerie silence of a full moon's stare

a radio broadcast shatters the air

A desperate call from a house in my beat

Just a couple of turns and I'll be on their street

I race to the aid of someone I don't know

With no time to waste, swiftly I go

Upon my arrival the situation is clear

without medical help your end is near

Feverishly I work to save your life

under the watchful eyes of your kids and your wife

Seems a gunshot rang out in the middle of the night

a horrible end to a senseless fight

You called me stupid and dumb all of your life

But now I've saved you in front of your kids and wife

You hate me, you badger me, Why should I care?

Because I am a police officer
